Pune, Maharashtra – November 4, 2023 – The HV Desai Eye Hospital, a pioneering institution in the field of eye care in Pune, celebrated a historic milestone today with the inauguration of its newly expanded hospital building, adding facilities spread over 30,000 sq.ft. Supported by the generous financial backing of Sankara Eye Hospitals, USA, the hospital's expansion from two floors to four floors is set to redefine eye care services in the region.

This momentous occasion was graced by the presence of prominent dignitaries, including Mr. Murali Krishnamurthy, Founder of Sankara Eye Foundation, USA and Padma Shri Dr. Ramanathan V. Ramani - the visionary Founder and Managing Trustee of Sankara Eye Foundation, India. Their presence at the inauguration ceremony underscored the significance of this event. The Board of Trustees of Sankara was also in attendance, reflecting their unwavering commitment to improving free eye care accessibility in India.

Under the able leadership of Parvez Billimoria, the Executive Director of HV Desai Eye Hospital, this remarkable expansion has transformed the hospital's infrastructure and capabilities. The addition of four new Integrated Operation Theatres (OTs) means that the hospital can now simultaneously perform 16 eye surgeries, making it more efficient and capable of serving a larger number of patients. With this expansion, the hospital is now a 400-bedded institution, further enhancing its capacity to provide high-quality eye care services.

The hospital continues its mission to provide free eye surgeries to those in need, with a resolute aim of performing 75,000 free surgeries by the year 2030.
