The R. Jhunjhunwala Sankara Eye Hospital, Varanasi, was inaugurated by the Honorable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on October 20, 2024. It is a state-of-the-art, 225-bed super-specialty eye hospital with a capacity to perform 30,000 free eye surgeries annually. The Rakesh Jhunjhunwala Foundation has generously contributed 50% of the land and construction costs and has committed to supporting operational costs until self-sufficiency is reached.

The Varanasi hospital’s location is ideally suited to serve people from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Nepal. The hospital functions on a cross-subsidization model where the income from paying patients offsets the costs of free surgeries for those in need.
